Friday -- Joseph Richart, an old and respected citizen of Mansfield, died at his home on Wood Street at 10:15 last night.  Mr. Richart had been ailing for some time and death resulted from a complication of diseases.

William Joseph Richart was born at Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, July 2, 1819.  He was the son of William Richart.  He received a good, common-school education and in 1840 entered the law office of Hon. Moses Hampton at Pittsburg as a student.  He read law there three years and in November, 1840, was admitted to the Bar.  Shortly after his admission to the bar he came to this city, his parents removing here shortly afterward.  His father was landlord of the Mansion House, a hotel which flourished here man years ago.  In 1847, Mr. Richart was admitted to the bar in Ohio, and formed a partnership with I.J. Allen.  The firm of Allen & Richart soon dissolved.

In October, 1853, Mr. Richart married Almira E. Allen, daughter of James M. Allen of Fredericktown.  In 1854 he embarked with James Purdy in a general banking business in Somerset, Perry County.  This firm did a good business until the panic of 1857.  Mr. Richart then returned to Mansfield, and went into the employ of Hall & Allen, operating the Mansfield Machine Works.  He was afterwards agent for the Pennsylvania railroad at this point.

The deceased leaves a wife and three children.  The children are:  Miss Abbie Ellen Richart, who resides at home, and William Rufus Richart and Theodore Frederick Richart of Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Funeral services will be held at his late residence at 2 p.m. tomorrow conducted by Dr. D.J. Meese.
